Hello everyone! ... this is the resurection of The Transfer Case! I suspect it's not perfect and I'm open to feedback - but take it easy on me the first couple months?! and we'll work on the pics... If anyone wants to add anything, you can respond to me or maybe reply to everyone would work - one way or another, we'll get the word out - be safe.... Kim

Club Run Report:

Corey, Pete and Mark (Mark who? - Mark Maithonis has joined several meetings and only needed one more run to be eligible for membership) went to Hollister for the June run. Was mostly the Tacoma group and Top Truck Challenge was going on. Corey invited several area clubs, but they had the campground to themselves. Sounded like a great trip - Corey went on a more difficult run, Pete led a group on the “easy” way. There was about 35 rigs total. No one admitted any tows, so nothing for the tow fund….

Blood run:

July 8th was the last blood run. Next month‘s date is pending.

Adopt a Trail - Delegate Meeting:

No report for adopt-a-trail this month, but Alan attended the delegate meeting and brought back lots of info. About 25 delegates attended…

- several clubs worked together to build a meeting/storage room for CAL 4Wheel.

- as a result of the PG&E bankruptcy, we may lose territory due to land sales

- the “possibility” of closing Spider Lake was short … around 07/14/04, a section of the Rubicon trail was closed to the public because of an accumulation of human feces.
The area includes a couple of hundred acres around the Spider Lake-Little Sluice
area, the most popular place to camp along the 14-mile trail. The order calls for the area to be closed for 120 days so it can be cleaned up to the point that it no longer presents a threat to public health and safety and the environment. ** see the URJB site ** for an early August run to help clean things up.

- more depressing news … the new Wentworth Springs campground was destroyed

- Sierra Trek was looking for support … clubs, people, etc.

- the sheriffs dept was making their presence known on the Rubicon - ticketing on the east side ; but not on the west side.

- the new Off Road Hall of Fame is open - one more reason to visit Reno!

- the new Hollister area will be open next year … what was that comment (Randy) about frogs and traction?

- bottom line is the money .. CA4wheel should be $10,000 to $15,000 in the black this year!!

Future Runs and Events:

Run-a-Muck : July 17th and 18th - as of the meeting, only Pete, Alan, and Mark were thinking of going … we sent 2 $50 contributions to the raffle.

Sierra Trek: - August 5th-8th - so far no one is going

Barrett Lake: August 7th-8th - Jim’s got this one.

Rubicon: August 21st/22nd - pending - was originally Eric’s trip

Bear Lake : weekend of September 18th - pending (also talk of the Fordyce Creek Trail sometime soon - maybe Sept)

Rubicon: October - Mike might get a small group together - pending

Pete’s going to Moab in October … see him or check out his website http://www.parksoffroad.com for further. He’s got a lot of other good stuff there too.

Winter Fun Festival 2005 - January 2005 - the 14th -16th - we’re doing breakfast Saturday morning - yeah 4:30! - lets keep Tony away from the grill this time!

Safety Committee/ Misc info:

The chairman didn’t make it this month - eye protection, don’t weld in short sleeves, seasonal vehicle maintenance, proper use of tow straps - just some reminders from past months for now … remember 4 wheeling can be a dangerous sport, lets all take the extra 2-3 seconds to buckle up and be safe!

** whatever breaks - SAVE IT! For the HardLuck award … let Jim know what your “contribution” is …

- related to Safety/Maintenance - Rich suggested the club do safety clinics more than once a year - seasonal was suggested and Mike’s place was kind of the default location - thanks Mike!

Cow Bell:

Hot debate preceded Pete getting the cow bell this month … did it help that he wasn’t there to argue about it? There was question about a factory defect (in his brake line) being eligible for this highly coveted award, but the cincher was his second “mishap“ (clogged carburetor leaving him temporarily Jeep-less). So things weren’t that exciting this month …

Raffle:

Randy won our monthly lottery -- geez I didn’t write down how much. Can he get email now?

And we can’t forget the dude at the end of the street who’s trying to sell his 79 trail duster … $1000 obo.
